Me Growing Up (featuring my parents), in 2 Movements

Me Growing Up (featuring my parents), in 2 Movements is a piece for solo flautist written as part of the Yong Siew Toh’s Young Composers’ Academy (YCA) 2020. Premiered by Carolin Ralser, the piece features the usage of numerous extended techniques on the piccolo and flute to capture the experiences and sounds of childhood and adolescence, which also serve as the 2 movements. These experiences and sounds are also highlighted within the various tempo markings throughout the piece. The ultimate intention of the piece is to show the evolution of both a child and their parents, and despite these changes, the parents are always there to provide their love and support.
