dance

dance is largely inspired by the harmonically dissonant and rhythmically powerful musical styles of dmitri shostakovich and sergei  prokofiev, interpreting the title in a more crazed fashion, a la the genres of rock and metal. the harmonic and melodic backbone of this movement is built upon the octatonic scale, allowing for characteristic melodic motifs and the coexistence and juxtaposition of harmonic consonances and dissonances. additionally, the movement features numerous aleatoric elements (particularly in the middle section) to allow for improvisation and interpretation by the performers, a  breakaway from the traditional concept of classical performance and allows for each performance to be more unique and unconstrained.
